in 2018.
From historic elections to the
losses of Kate Spade and
Anthony Bourdain, the 2018 news
cycle had people searching
topics that made headlines at
home and abroad. Google
recently released its trending
searches for 2018, outlining what
people in the United States
searched most during the last
year.

The term that led the pack?
World Cup.
The global sporting event that
pitted an ultimately victorious
France against Croatia drew 32
countries to Russia and search
queries from across the U.S. The
term also landed chief among
Google's top news searches.
The deadly Hurricane Florence
was America's second most
searched on Google's top general
searches and top news searches.
The dominant Marvel and Disney
hit "The Black Panther" and
American actress Meghan
Markle's royal wedding to Prince
Harry landed among the top 10
general and news-specific
searches.
When it came to how-tos,
Americans were most looking to
learn how to vote and how to
register to vote. Faced with
riches, others wanted to test
their luck and learn how to play
the Mega Millions or Powerball.
